Installation

What does install day look like?

A full hour-by-hour walkthrough of a typical Copper Bee install day from arrival to clean-up.

Most residential installs follow a predictable shape. Here’s a typical mid-morning EV charger or panel upgrade.

15 minutes before arrival

Your electrician texts you they’re on the way and gives a tight ETA. We aim for 4-hour arrival windows but most show up in the first hour.

0:00 — Arrival

The electrician introduces themselves, reviews the scope you accepted, and confirms a few things on-site (the exact mounting spot, route, panel access). They’ll ask where to park and where they can stage materials. They’ll lay tarps in any indoor work area.

0:15 — Power shut-off (if needed)

If we’re working at the panel, we cut the main breaker. You lose power to the whole house. Fridge stays cold for a few hours easily — nothing to worry about. We’ll let you know exactly when to expect power back.

0:15 to 2:00 — The install

Conduit, wire, breakers, mounting hardware, terminations. Most EV chargers are done in 2–3 hours, panel upgrades in 4–8 hours, generators in 1–2 days.

Last 30 minutes — Test and cleanup

We restore power, test the new circuit (verify amps, verify trip behaviour), and walk you through what we did. If it’s a charger, we’ll watch you plug your car in and confirm it’s pulling the expected current. We vacuum the work area, take all packaging, and leave.

Same day — Install certificate

Within 24 hours your portal shows the install certificate, the ESA filing confirmation (if applicable), and any warranty paperwork.

Things to do before install day

  • Move cars out of the way if we’re working in the garage or driveway.
  • Move any furniture or storage clear of the panel.
  • Make sure pets are settled somewhere quiet — we don’t mind dogs but power outages can stress them.
  • Have your install address handy in case the electrician asks for the unit/buzzer code.

See do I need to be home? for that question specifically.
