Short answer: someone over 18 needs to be home at the start and at the end. The middle hours? You can come and go.
You need to be there for
- The start — to confirm the scope, the location, and any last-minute changes.
- The end — to walk through the work with the electrician, sign the completion form, and be present for power restoration.
- Anything that affects multiple rooms — lighting installs, smart switch setups, smoke detector replacements. Quicker if you can point and confirm as we go.
You don’t need to be present for
- Most of the middle hours of a panel upgrade or EV charger install — you can be in another part of the house, working from home, or running errands.
- Outdoor work entirely outside the house (e.g. an exterior service mast replacement) — the start and end check-ins can happen by text.
If you absolutely can’t be there
An adult who lives at the property (spouse, roommate, parent) can stand in for you. We’ll need their phone number ahead of time. Property managers can also act on your behalf with a one-time written authorisation — useful for landlords and rentals.
What about lockbox / key-under-the-mat access?
We don’t accept lockbox installs — too many things can go sideways without a homeowner present (unexpected scope, wrong product, sleeping pet, etc.). For renters: your landlord needs to give written consent and ideally be reachable by phone during the install.
Working from home during the install
Totally fine. Expect a 30-minute power outage if we’re at the panel — we’ll text you a heads-up 5 minutes before so you can save your work and grab a coffee.
